Ongeziwe Mali

I’m Ongeziwe Mali, a proud South African field hockey player. I made my national debut at 18 and had the honor of representing South Africa at the Junior World Cup and later the Olympics. I come from Zwide in Port Elizabeth, a community that shaped me and grounded me. Beyond the athlete, I’m also a daughter, a student, a mentor, and someone who’s passionate about education, wellness, and creating opportunities for others — especially young girls from under-resourced communities.

What drew you to Brabo Hockey

Brabo stands for excellence, boldness, and performance — qualities that resonate deeply with who I am and how I play. What drew me in was their commitment to quality and innovation, but more importantly, their authentic connection with athletes. They don’t just sponsor athletes; they partner with us. I’m all about pushing boundaries and showing what’s possible when you’re bold — and Brabo represents that same energy.

ultimate hockey goal

My ultimate goal is to help South Africa break into the top tier of international hockey. I want to be part of the team that changes the narrative for our country — not just making appearances, but competing for podiums. Personally, I also want to inspire the next generation of South African girls to dream big, believe boldly, and know that anything is possible — no matter where you come from.
